Tata Group Emerges as India’s Premier iPhone Manufacturer: A New Chapter in Tech Production

Tata Group has made history by becoming India’s first domestic iPhone manufacturer, according to an announcement made by Union Minister of State for Electronics & Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on the social networking platform X, on October 27. This significant milestone was achieved after Wistron Corporation agreed to sell its plant in southern India to Tata Group. In a recent meeting, Wistron, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, revealed that its board had approved the sale of Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing (India) Private Ltd. To Tata for $125 million.

This move positions Tata Group as a key player in iPhone production, a market previously dominated by Taiwanese giants like Pegatron Corp. and Foxconn Technology Group.

Chandrasekhar shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his excitement, “Now within just two and a half years, Tata Companies will start manufacturing iPhones in India for both domestic and global markets. Congratulations to the Tata team for taking over Wistron operations.”

This development marks a significant leap in India’s tech manufacturing sector, underlining Tata Group’s growing influence in the global tech market.
