In a recent turn of events, Union Minister Giriraj Singh expressed strong condemnation for the Trinamool Congress and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team was attacked in Sandeshkhali village of North 24 Parganas district. Singh accused Banerjee of presiding over a government resembling that of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, emphasizing the absence of democracy in the state.
The ED team faced hostility and vehicle damage during a raid related to an alleged ration scam involving TMC block-level functionary Shahjahan Sheikh and Shankar Adhya. Shahjahan is known to be a close aide of state minister Jyotipriyo Mallick, who was previously arrested in connection with a multi-crore ration distribution scam.
As the ED officials arrived, a large group of TMC members and supporters surrounded them, resulting in physical altercations and damage to their vehicles. Forced to leave their damaged vehicles behind, the officers sought safety on autorickshaws and two-wheelers.
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose strongly condemned the attack, labeling it as “alarming, deplorable, and a ghastly incident.” He stressed the importance of a civilized government preventing barbarism and vandalism in a democracy, emphasizing the need for timely intervention to end pre-election violence.
The Congress, a partner ally in the INDIA bloc with TMC, also criticized the situation, demanding the imposition of President’s rule in the state. Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, Congress MP in charge of West Bengal, expressed concern over the lack of law and order in the state and hinted that official murders might not be surprising in the TMC-ruled region.
In response, TMC dismissed the Congress’s criticism, with leader Kunal Ghosh stating that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is an agent of the BJP. On the other hand, BJP’s state unit chief Sukanta Majumdar urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate an NIA probe into the incident.
The unfolding events in West Bengal have sparked widespread concern about the state of democracy and law and order, with political leaders from various parties expressing their views on the need for intervention and investigations into the attack on ED officials. The situation remains tense, and the aftermath of this incident may have far-reaching consequences for the political landscape in the political landscape in India.
